The Books And Why We Love Melinda Salisbury

Seventeen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she’s engaged to the prince, Twylla isn’t exactly a member of the court.

As the Goddess embodied, Twylla instantly kills anyone she touches. Each month she’s taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love a girl with murder in her veins. Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to Twylla’s fatal touch, avoids her company.

But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose easy smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he’s able to look past Twylla’s executioner robes and see the girl, not the Goddess. Yet Twylla’s been promised to the prince, and knows what happens to people who cross the queen.

However, a treasonous secret is the least of Twylla’s problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies, a plan that requires a stomach-churning, unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favour of a doomed love?

Return to the darkly beautiful world of The Sin Eater’s Daughter with a sequel that will leave you awed, terrified . . . and desperate for more. Ever since her brother Lief disappeared, Errin’s life has gone from bad to worse. Not only must she care for her sick mother, she has to scrape together rent money by selling illegal herbal cures. But none of that compares to the threat of the vengeful Sleeping Prince whom the Queen just awoke from his enchanted sleep. When her village is evacuated as part of the war against the Sleeping Prince, Errin is left desperate and homeless. The only person she can turn to is the mysterious Silas, a young man who buys deadly poisons from Errin, but won’t reveal why he needs them. Silas promises to help Errin, but when he vanishes, Errin must journey across a kingdom on the brink of war to seek another way to save her mother and herself. But what she finds splits the world as she knows it apart, and with the Sleeping Prince drawing nearer, Errin must make a heartbreaking choice that could affect the whole kingdom…

The final battle is coming… As the Sleeping Prince tightens his hold on Lormere and Tregellan, the net closes in on the ragged band of rebels trying desperately to defeat him. Twylla and Errin are separated, isolated, and running out of time. The final battle is coming, and Aurek will stop at nothing to keep the throne forever… Explosive, rich and darkly addictive, this is the stunning conclusion to Mel Salisbury’s internationally best-selling trilogy that began with THE SIN EATER’S DAUGHTER

The Scarecrow Queen is the highly anticipated and captivating finale in the internationally bestselling trilogy that began with The Sin Eater’s Daughter. Published by Scholastic 2 March 2017.

Tales Events – The Sleeping Prince Birmingham Launch

Sleeping PrinceOn Friday 5th February 2016 Waterstones Birmingham had extra special royalty attend their wonderful store!

The wonderful Melinda Salisbury decided to have not one, but two launches to celebrate the release of The Sleeping Prince and held the second launch in Birmingham which I was so over the moon to be able to attend!

Sleeping PrinceThe Sleeping Prince is the second book in the Sin Eaters Daughter Trilogy and is AMAZING!

You can check out my review of The Sleeping Prince here

So the setting was set.  Deep on the history level of Waterstones the always wonderful bookseller extraordinaire Jamie started the evening off giving Mel a huge big welcome.

ms2

Mel entered the room and settled down and I did a little snigger that behind her were books about Richard III (her love) and Henry VII (her enemy).

ms3

Although they were not holding her books like the examples below that myself and the hubby had a great amount of fun using Photoshop with!

We were all given the chance to get our frustrations out and were permitted to heckle and boo Mel for certain things that happen in both The Sin Eater’s Daughter and The Sleeping Prince, but we were all far too polite and possibly in too much awe of such a wonderful writer.  In case we did decide to boo, Mel had a huge bottle of readers tears aka wine on hand!

So the event started and the lovely Mel looked beautiful in her crown.

ms4ms5

The event was brilliant and Jamie had some brilliant questions up her sleeve as always.  Mel spoke about The Sin Eater’s Daughter, The Sleeping Prince, myths and fairy tales and her inspirations including Mel’s experiences whilst travelling.

One things that Mel said really stuck in my mind…she said sometimes its good to go a different route home from school or work or get off that bus a stop earlier or later and walk to your destination.  The world is full of inspiration and it’s good to explore.

Mel also mentioned how she has written a couple of short stories with the history of some of the back stories in the books like The Sleeping Prince and The Bringer more for herself so she could write the main books, but it was agreed by everyone in the room that we need these books to be published asap!

*bats eyelashes at Scholastic*

ms7

Mel also read from The Sleeping Prince….from the prologue!  Yes indeed!

ms9

ms8

It was then the audiences turn to ask questions and there were quite a few questions to be asked.  One particular question was about book three.  Mel kept quite tight lipped, but we all have a horrible feeling that she is plotting to kill off probably our favourite characters!  She had that look on her face.

It was interesting to hear that the synopsis for book three had been sent off to Scholastic for approval and also that the start and the end of this trilogy has been set in stone and planned by Mel from day one and it’s not changed.  I’m both amazed and scared about this prospect!  I’m sure she has plans to destroy us all emotionally!

Another fab question was about what she is going to write after the trilogy is complete.  Mel told us that in down time between writing The Sin Eater’s Daughter trilogy she has started something and from what she has described it sounds awesome!  I’m hoping that it gets published so much!

*crosses fingers*

Once the time for the signing came it was time for Mel to dig out the wax seal!  That’s right!  Waterstones literally let Mel play with fire.  After using gold wax at her first launch in London (and setting Samantha Shannons book on fire) we had complete faith that she was now a pro at this.  Using silver wax for this launch we all couldn’t wait for Mel to get signing!

It was also fab to see some friends at the event.  It feels like it’s been too long since I last saw some of these beautiful faces.  Here’s a few…

IMG_0098It was then time for a well earned glass of wine and of course to give Mel her little launch present that I brought for her.  I forgot to take a picture of it but basically it was a tote bag with her two books printed on each side 🙂

It was a really fab night!  I had so much fun!

Thanks Waterstones Birmingham for hosting such a fab event and a huge thank you and congratulations to my lovely friend and wonderful author Melinda Salisbury!

One amazing lady!

Review – The Sleeping Prince by Melinda Salisbury

Sleeping Prince

** Please note Tales Of Yesterday Reviews are written as spoiler free as possible**

The Sleeping Prince has been high up on my most anticipated list since I read the first novel in the trilogy The Sin Eaters Daughter.  I couldn’t wait to jump back into Mel’s world and see what Melinda Salisbury had in store for me next!  I have to say I was blown away!

And this time it has an awesome map showing all the Kingdoms!  I love a good map!

The Sleeping Prince starts where The Sin Eater’s Daughter left off thereabouts, but this time from the perspective of Errin who although we had not met prior to The Sleeping Prince we had heard of her through Leif’s stories in The Sin Eater’s Daughter as Errin is Liefs sister.

With the Kingdoms at war following The Sleeping Prince being awoken we are thrown straight into Kingdoms in turmoil.  With an unforgettable prologue that crushed my soul we are thrown straight into the action and the feeling of fear is instantly felt.

We follow Errin through the highs and lows.  Looking after her sick mother, missing her brother Leif and her dead Father, trying to make ends meet and brewing potions for the mysterious Silas.  With the threat of being evacuated from her home and with the approach of The Sleeping Prince threatening to take over all of the Kingdoms Errin is forced on a journey that she ordinarily would not take.

I loved how certain aspects of Errin’s memories were her perspective of what we already knew from Leif in the previous book and it gave me the warm fuzzy feelings inside with these gentle nods to the character I had grown to love from The Sin Eater’s Daughter.  That being said Errin stands out on her own and is an instantly likeable character with a caring, loving nature who grows throughout the book.

I fell completely in love with the mysterious Silas….a hooded mysterious man who keeps his mystery throughout the book.  That’s kinda sexy right?

A lot of my favourite scenes involved the growing relationship between Errin and Silas before her journey begins.

I also loved various cross over points and nods to The Sin Eater’s Daughter which created some rather sweet moments which touched my heart.  And you also find out the answer to the question that has haunted us for a whole year….who was behind the knocking on the door!

Yet again Melinda Salisbury writes such well crafted characters and gives us the fear factor of The Sleeping Prince.  Imagine if you had been woken up after a 100 years sleep!  You would be grumpy right?  Well so was The Sleeping Prince!  With his army of Gollum’s doing his dirty work with the aid of The Silver Knight he reigns havoc in the scenes where he is present, but also his presence is felt throughout the book without him being in each scene.  The feeling that The Sleeping Prince is coming is truly terrifying and really makes you fearful for everyone in the Kingdoms that you love.

The pace of the book really makes the story flow page after page.

I really think Melinda’s writing in this book has grown so much in strength.  It’s completely stunning and breath-taking.  The imagery that is created and the feelings she makes you feel through her characters are truly amazing.  Each chapter leaves you craving more and makes you wonder how on earth Melinda is going to wrap everything up in just one more book!

Also I have a sneaky feeling I may have worked out the title for the next book…..but I may be really wrong!

And last but not least all I’m going to say is…..That. Last. Line!

*cries about waiting another year for the next book and my return to Mel’s world*

On another note a huge shout out to Jamie Gregory for such stunning covers for The Sin Eater’s Daughters trilogy.  They are a thing of absolute beauty!

The Sleeping Prince is a phenomenal read which I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fantasy, fantastic characters and a brilliant twisting plot.  The story feels true of ancient Camelot times with hints of fairy tales and far away lands.

This could be read as a companion novel, but I highly recommend reading The Sin Eater’s Daughter first to get the full experience and impact of the all the storylines and to let Melinda destroy your very soul!

I award this book 5 out of 5 Tales Of Yesterday Books!
