The Valley Of Lost Secrets by Lesley Parr

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Full heart, secrets ,bravery, loyalty and adventure The Valley Of Lost Secrets is an absolutely stunning historical fiction debut which celebrates friendships and family during the most testing of times in the most gorgeous way.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
The Valley Of Lost Secrets tells the story of two brothers Jimmy and Ronnie. Evacuated from London to Wales during the war, 1939. This small village is very different from home and whilst Ronnie settles in Jimmy feels out of place. But then he finds a skull hidden in a tree and in a bid to uncover the truth Jimmy has to work out who to trust and learn the valleys secrets which will change this little village forever.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
The Valley Of Lost Secrets is as uplifting as it is heartbreaking. It made me smile, it made me laugh, it made me cry but most of all it made me have all the feels. Like a warm and comfy blanket that envelopes you and makes you feel all snug and cozy. You can feel how much love and care has gone into every word, every description, every historical fact and every character. When you finish a book with tears in your eyes you know you’ve been fully invested and the book has captured your heart.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Whilst I loved all the main characters I can’t move on without speaking about lovely Ronnie... if you know you know, but oh my gosh my heart! I would quite happily read a Ronnie sequel *hint cough hint* ... bless him he was the sweetest!
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Shout out to the gorgeous illustrations and cover art (Jet Purdie and David Dean) the amount of little details threaded throughout the book was just delightful and just added to the whole reading experience for me.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
A beautiful setting, real people, real stories and an author who brings it all to life.... I simply cannot wait to read what Lesley Parr writes next.... I have no doubt it will be another classic!

Last One To Die by Cynthia Murphy 🌟 🌟 🌟 Last One To Die by Cynthia Murphy

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

🔪
Stamping a supernatural creepy modern twist on the Point Horrors of old and giving a fresh modern voice to the genre, Last One To Die is a proper suspenseful scare fest that had me hiding under the covers on more than one occasion!
🔪
Last One To Die tells the story of Niamh who travels from Ireland to London for a summer of fun, drama school and to experience the sights and sounds of the Capital. Niamh soon discovers that there are sinister attacks on young women who appear to bear an uncanny resemblance to Niamh! Throwing herself into her course and her work placement at the Victorian museum she makes friends, gains a love interest and a stalker! Niamh starts to get the feeling that someone is out to get her!
🔪
I loved the perfect mix of modern day “killer out to get me” and Victorian serial killer mythology. The descriptions of London from a tourist perspective really made me miss visiting and I’ve also realised how much I love Victorian mythology and I admire the research into the back stories of some of these myths like the Penny Dreadfuls and Spring-heeled Jack... I’ve need more of this in my life! Hit me up with
🔪
You really get the sense that someone is out to get Niamh making you really feel that sense of unease and dread for her her as a character. I was proper scared for her! Creepy tube station at night, figures hiding in the dark, stuck in a confined spaces, sceances ... *nervous scared laugh* But Niamh was a proper kick ass no messing around character and I loved her for it!
🔪
The writing flowed so well and was perfectly paced I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! The tension was ramped up during particularly terrifying situations that Niamh finds herself in! I still have fingernail marks in the book from gripping it so tightly! I had theory after theory and I was so so wrong!
🔪
Cynthia Murphy is a fantastic debut author and is definitely one to watch! Bringing a fresh voice to the genre with the right mix of edge of your seat thriller and horror!
🔪
#LastOneToDie is out now! Perfect for fans of #PointHorror #ChristopherPike #urbanlegend #rlstine #supernatural #ukya #ya #yahorror

The Sight Of You by Holly Miller 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Sight Of You by Holly Miller

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sometimes a book comes along that captures your heart from the first page to the very last and doesn’t let go. I adored this book so so much!
💕
Wonderfully original, perfectly executed and beautifully written The Sight Of You tells the story of Joel and Callie who meet and fall in love, but Joel has dreams of his loved ones that always come true. Sometimes he can intervene and change the future but sometimes he has to let the dreams play out. Asking the question would you choose love if you knew how it would end?
💕
Sad, uplifting, captivating.... all
the emotions rolled into one. The Sight Of You will have you completely enthralled with plenty of smiles, laughter and a heart full of love for Joel and Callie and their journey.
💕
For me The Sight Of You reminded me a little of One Day by David Nicholls whereby the characters are so well written that you are rooting for them from the start, like old friends.
💕
I love how the story was played out over a lengthy period of time giving you a good insight into the characters lives before, during and in later years. Some of later scenes become as familiar to you as a reader as the dreams are to Joel but seeing them as a whole beautiful picture fills your heart to the brim with all the love and feelings.
💕
I can’t lie this book made me grab for the
tissue box (or two) and stare into the void sobbing long after I finished the last page. There is a particular scene at a train station which made me gasp out loud and I had to put the book down to catch my breath and wipe my tears..... it destroyed me but then pieced me back together.
💕
I am hugely excited to read more by Holly Miller! The Sight Of You is an absolute triumph a tale of love and sacrifice and a solid reminder of how precious life is. Cherish and take in every precious memory and moment. I don’t think I will forget this book for a very long time!

Do you remember the Point Horror book series from Do you remember the Point Horror book series from the 90’s?

Point Horror was a series of young adult horror books which, after being published in the US under the Point banner, were launched in the UK around 1991 by Scholastic.

With the famous Point Horror banner on every book, memorable titles and covers, often female leads, hot jock dudes, suspicious best friends, questionable fashion choices, missing parents and of course…..plenty of murder!

Basically this sums up my teenage years perfectly! I used to rush to the shops every weekend, make my purchase and sit for the whole weekend reading.

#PointHorrorBookClub was created by author Juno Dawson in 2013. Juno announced in 2015 that she was no longer able to carry on so, with her blessing, I took over the reins.

So why not grab a copy and join in with #PointHorrorBookClub

Are the Point Horror books we loved as a teenager still our favourites on a re-read? Have they not stood the test of time? After a hit of nostalgia? Or are you new to Point Horror and want to see what its all about?

Let’s find out………..follow @talespointhorrorbookclub for more soon!
